About Us

Our Mission
Why did we set up PBSuk? Our mission is simple, ‘To help those with complex needs to flourishi’. On this mission we are not planning on leaving anyone out… from individuals to organisations to nations ii. But what does it mean to flourish I hear you cry?. Well, it is a term used in positive psychology and we learned about it from Dr Martin Seligman. So, to help you understand, we are going to paraphrase the man himself:
When you think about those you love, care for or support (and please think about yourself too) would you say yes to:
- More positive emotion?
- More engagement; with the people we love, in our work, or with our hobbies?
- Better relationships with others in our lives?
- Feeling a deeper sense of meaning (i.e., a greater sense of belonging, purpose and connection)?
- A greater experience of achievement and accomplishment in life?
If you do, then you understand what it is to flourish and therefore, why we have made it our mission.
( i & ii see our notes on terminology)
(iii ok, well nations might be a bit of a stretch right now, but we are serious about supporting the development of better services for people who need them, and are interested in the socio-cultural system and how it impacts on the services and support people access and receive)
Meet the Team
The Others
We also work closely with a bank of associates with varying specialisms in Positive Behaviour Support and other evidence based therapies. These specialisms include: Personality Disorder, Acquired Brain Injuries, Dementia, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Feeding Disorders, Alternative Communication Systems, Research, Active Support, Wellbeing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy & Practice Leadership. This means that if there is something we don’t know, we can usually find someone who does!
We currently use the experience and knowledge of Roy Deveau from the Tizard Centre and Dr. Bobby Newman (BCBA) to support, advise and supervise some of our work.
We consider ourselves fortunate to have links with a strong network of people ranging from people who use services, families, support workers, social workers, senior operators, clinicians, academics and commissioners. We even know an ex fighter pilot who is involved with a fantastic charity that support people with disabilities to fly planes!!! https://www.aerobility.com/. All of these individuals have helped us shape PBS uk into what it is today and many of these people feel like part of the team to us! (we are incredibly grateful for your council, guidance, the occasional challenge and of course your support)
